Soul On Ice Radio Show for the week of April 26th, 2009

Greetings listeners! I'm back with a special episode of the Soul On Ice Radio Show. Toronto hip-hop artist a.k.a. Subliminal dropped into the studio to talk about his upcoming full length album release entitled "Trainathought" which will be out worldwide on June 11th of this year. I really enjoyed our conversation about not only how he put the album together but WHY he felt he had to do it. I think you will too.

Playlist:

aka Subliminal f Chris Rouse - You And I [CAN]
Saukrates f Tona, JD Era, etc - Fades Away (rmx) [CAN]
Brassmunk - Ease Up [CAN]
Drake f Lil Wayne - Ig'nant Sh*t [CAN]
Kardinal Offishal f Rihanna - Tide Is High [CAN]
K'Naan - Dreamer [CAN]

aka Subliminal Interview Segment

aka Subliminal - It's Like That [CAN]
aka Subliminal f Hezekiah - My People [CAN]
aka Subliminal - Beauty On Your Skin [CAN]
aka Subliminal f Dre Marone - Crazy [CAN]

Glenn Lewis - Simple Things [CAN]
D'Angelo - The Root
Erykah Badu - Other Side Of The Game
Raphael Saadiq - Still Ray
Eric Roberson - Couldn't Hear Me Over The Music
Eric Benet - Spiritual Thing
Anthony David - Stop Playin'
Alicia Keys - Mr. Man
Bilal - You Are
Floetry - Say Yes
Raheem Devaughn - You

As you heard, aka Subliminal is an artist who is representing Toronto properly on so many levels. Movies, music and even in the grass roots community scene. Show some love to the man when his album drops June 11th. As you heard, it’s going to a good one so pick it up and support REAL hip-hop.

As you can see my boy Subliminal has a new single out right now entitled "Crazy". It is the lead off from his soon to be released album "Trainathought" which should be out this summer. He'll be joinin me in the studio for my next show so much sure you check back in for that. No doubt he'll be droppin' off some album exclusives for me to play and I doubt he'll be able to resist droppin' a freestyle on the mic so don't miss it. Take care of yourselves until I see you back here again.

The smell of Spring is in the air here in Toronto, Canada and with that comes an inevitable sense of growth and renewal. It's been a minute since I've held an interview on my show but I've decided to come back with a bang. This show features an interview with a woman who represents a family name that has been synonymous with quality Black music for generations now. Her name is Lalah Hathaway and I had the pleasure of talking to her about her latest album entitled "Self Portrait". It is a beautiful piece of work, keeping in line with the type of quality we've all come to expect from Lalah over the years. Have a listen and find out about how Lalah went about putting the album together, her tour plans, what she expects from a fellow Chicagoan who recently moved into the White House and more!

Playlist

Ryan Leslie - One In A Million

Soul On Ice Radio Show for the week of Feb 22nd, 2009

Thanks for swinging by to review the latest episode of the Soul On Ice Radio Show. This is the last show for Black History Month so I thought it appropriate that I should end my special mix series by honouring what I feel to be the greatest Black music label of all time, Motown Records. Yes, I realize the important roles that labels such as Stax, Chess, Def Jam and the like have played but let's face facts; Motown is king.

Doubt it? Browse through the abundant crop of legendary tracks in my tribute Motown mix's playlist. Then realize that the big chunes therein are only a small fraction of the hit songs that the label and its artist have put out over the decades. Motown has produced 135 #1 hits worldwide to be exact! Hats off to Badboy and Uptown but you're not even close. Sax is down with the king and I prove it during this episode's special Motown Tribute Mix.

Playlist for the week of Feb 22nd, 2009

Op Swamp 81 - Another Day
J Rawls - Soul (again and again)

Zo & Tigallo - Something About You
Level 42 - Children Say
Solange Knowles - I Decided
Alicia Keys - Teenage Love Affair
Jazmine Sullivan - Switch!
Raphael Saadiq - 100 Yard Dash

Motown Tribute Set

<itunes:summary>Thanks for swinging by to review the latest episode of the Soul On Ice Radio Show.
