Hey SOI followers! Thanks for stopping by to check out another episode of the show. I'm continuing my Black History Month celebration this week with a special Bob Marley tribute mix. We folk of West Indian heritage never have that much expected of us and worldwide notice of our accomplishments is usually fleeting at best. The names Brian Lara, Hasley Crawford, Dwight Yorke, The Mighty Shadow and Penny Commissiong may not be household names to you but where I'm from, they are living cultural icons who are recognized by all. The world not taking notice of our heroes is something we Windies have come to expect. So much so that when one of us receives Grammy Lifetime Achievement Awards, Album of the Century awards from Time Magazine and Inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, we celebrate that person and their legacy. . .forever. And please do not think it is because we did not expect greatness from ourselves. My people know what we are capable of and what it is that we have both accomplished and survived during our time on this rock. We celebrate openly because so often OTHERS fail to recognize/remember our capacity for greatness. . .and what kind of planetary neighbours would we be if we didn't give them a gentle reminder at least once a year?

Rest In Peace Robert Nesta Marley. Thank you for making the world stand up and take notice of the power and beauty of Caribbean music. With all respect to Uptown, Badboy, Bluenote, Chess, Def Jam and Stax, I pay respect to the most influential label ever in the history of Black music. How influential you say? Well, I don't even have to state their name and you all already know who I'm talking about! Take care of yourselves until then.
Soul On Ice Baby!
